On Friends and Laughter.

March 19, 2012

{the whole gang}
Hi y'all.  I just spent the four days with one of my favorite people in the whole wide world (plus her two sweet daughters).  Nichole and I go way back....in fact, we were reminiscing about "falling in love" back in college.  You have done that with good friends before, right?  (In the completely platonic way, of course!)

Anyway, one of the things I love most about Nichole is the way we laugh non-stop when we are together.  Truth be told, she is one of the funniest people on the planet, so I think lots of other people feel this way about her as well.  But it got me thinking.  I need more laughter in my life.  I don't think there has been a void of it or anything like that (I'm so lucky to have a HILARIOUS husband that I laugh with daily), I just need need MORE of it because it feels so darn good.  I wish Nichole lived closer (although we are trying to convince her husband to move her back to California....fingers crossed).  I think I'll call all my funny people this week to see if they want to hang out.  ;-)

  1. Love this topic...as you get busier and busier with kids, life, etc., sometimes you just need to have one of those laugh sessions with a close friend. It feels so good for the soul. My two closest girlfriends live far from me now and I so miss our laugh sessions.

  5. Oh absolutely. My 5-year-old son recently called one of his girl friends "beautiful", and when I asked him why he thought she was beautiful, he responded: "because she's silly and she makes me laugh". I adore that response!

    New to your blog and am having fun poking around - it's very nice!

  6. I'm a laugher. I love to laugh. In fact I have thought of trying out laughing yoga. I saw a group doing some laughing yoga down at the beach and it was all I could do not to join right in.

    Old friends are the best for this type of catharsis. I was just thinking about a good friend of mine from school that cracks me up and this thing we were addicted to saying. We would say "It's all good" at the end of everything and die laughing. I can't remember why we thought it was so funny, but it still makes me laugh.

  7. This post was so timely for me! My closest friend from college - who makes me laugh constantly - just booked a flight to come visit my family in May. We talk almost daily, but seeing each other in person is always fantastic. Reading your post made me even more excited for his visit.

  8. All friends are great to have, but friends who can really make you laugh are rare, and so special! I agree with a few of the previous commenters- for some reason the friends I've had since childhood make me laugh the hardest- probably because they knew me at my most ridiculous :)

  9. Amen. Laughter is so powerful, especially with old friends (I agree with Desi, as usual!). Being silly is golden. I know this to be so true that I really do try to be the giver of laughter as much as possible. If I can make my friends laugh, I've done my job. Everyone wins!
